Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray was presented to the world public in mid-July 2019. The novelty has become a real revolution within this model line. She received a radically different suspension structure and platform architecture, a traditional power unit, a modern variable gearbox, an interior with an increased quality of finishing materials, as well as an aggressive design in all the canons of modern fashion. Visually, the silhouette of the model has changed dramatically. The cage has moved 400 mm forward, the hood has been shortened, and the rear has become noticeably more massive. Despite such metamorphoses, the car retained all the family features. On the front end are pointed, elongated headlights, which have received thin sections of daytime running lights and a more modern LED filling. The sides are now adorned with huge air intakes with plastic overlays. Brake lights can be seen aft, retaining their signature dual layout. Also striking is a small spoiler and four square exhaust pipes. Chevrolet Corvette has been produced since 1953, managed to change 8 generations and had a front longitudinal arrangement of the power unit throughout its history. This layout is considered classic, however, it has a lot of disadvantages that are critical for a supercar. The manufacturer even before that thought about changing the architecture, however, the idea came to implementation only now. The eighth generation Corvette is mid-engined. It is based on a spatial frame made of winged metal alloys, on which external fiberglass panels are hung. The body itself, as before, is a targa. The roof panels can be removed and stowed in the trunk. By the way, now there are two of them, front and back. The total capacity is 357 liters. As a result, the car has become noticeably longer. It measures 4630 mm long, 1934 mm wide, 1234 mm high and 2722 between the wheelsets. The chassis architecture has also changed. From now on, double wishbone suspensions with coil springs and telescopic shock absorbers are installed in a circle. As for the Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray engine, it has not been upgraded. This is a classic 6.2-liter V-shaped atmospheric eight. It received the LT2 index, a direct fuel injection system, and only 2 valves per cylinder. To increase savings, half of the cylinders can be shut off. To avoid oil starvation on steep bends with large lateral g-forces, a dry sump system was installed. As a result, the engineers managed to squeeze out 502 horsepower and 637 Nm of torque. As for the transmission, a whole revolution has taken place. On the last generation, mechanical and automatic hydromechanical boxes were installed. For the eighth generation, a true preselective eight-speed robot with two clutches was developed. The development was carried out by Tremec, a company that traditionally deals with transmissions on corvettes. The drive is exclusively rear. The Chevrolet Corvette C8 Stingray has all the options you need for a comfortable and safe ride, but the most exciting addition is performance-enhancing equipment. For an additional fee, the Z51 Performance package can be ordered. It includes adaptive dampers, a different exhaust manifold, more powerful fixed caliper brakes, an electronically controlled limited-slip differential, a splitter and spoiler, and a more efficient cooling system. A corvette in this version is capable of dialing a hundred in less than 3 seconds.
