The new generation KIA Soul debuted at the Los Angeles International Auto Show at the end of November 2018. The car is a full-fledged third generation and was presented in several of its incarnations at once. The Korean manufacturer announced three special versions, however, did not show the base one. Each of them received a lot of distinctive qualities and an almost unique design. Generally speaking, the distinctive features of the new generation are two-story headlights. Above, flanking the thin chrome trim are narrow, elongated headlights with LED running lights. The layout of the lighting equipment itself is different for each version. So, the sporty GT-Line received round focusing lenses, and the more off-road X-Line has large reflectors with halogen lamps. Also worth noting is the classic body kit made of unpainted plastic and the abundance of chrome moldings. Kia Soul can hardly be attributed to any popular car segment. Most accurately, it can be described as a five-door D-class hatchback. Its overall dimensions have increased compared to the previous generation. The car measures 4196 mm in length, 1800 in width, 1600 in height and 2600 mm between the axles. The car is based on the K2 platform, also used in the Kona crossover. Soul got a simplified suspension scheme. There are independent McPherson struts in front, and a semi-independent torsion beam at the back. The new body has a more spacious trunk. In its standard position, it can hold up to 364 liters of luggage. By folding the backrests of the second row, you can free up to 651 liters of free space when loading under the window line. For the US market, the KIA Soul will receive three different powertrains. Base models will receive the well-known gasoline 2.0-liter naturally aspirated Nu series four. It produces 152 horsepower and 179 Nm of torque. As a transmission, you can choose a six-speed manual transmission or a variator. For fans of more dynamic driving, the manufacturer offers a 1.6-liter inline four with a turbocharging system for 204 horses and 265 Nm of torque. It mates exclusively with a seven-speed robotic gearbox. The electric version is the most efficient. Its output is 204 horses and 395 Nm of thrust. Power is supplied from a 64 kW * h rechargeable battery. For the KIA Soul, the manufacturer has prepared a wide range of optional equipment. The car can be equipped with a head-up display, LED interior lighting, a keyless entry system, an air conditioner with two zones of operation, heated windshield and rear windows, outside mirrors, seats and a steering wheel, a multimedia system, as well as a mass of security systems, coupled with a radar cruise control and sensors that track the lane of movement.
