In the summer of 2020, Lexus unveiled the fourth generation of its IS compact sedan. Externally, the car has undergone noticeable changes both front and rear. From the previous model to the new one, the huge spindle-shaped radiator grille was transferred practically unchanged. Its lower end is aligned with the lower edge of the bumper. In addition, the air intakes, located on opposite sides of the radiator grill, received a different configuration. The optics has changed less radically, although noticeably. Now the daytime running lights are made in the form of thin streak stripes. In the rear, the bumper has changed in shape, the exhaust pipes made of trapezoidal steel are rounded, and between the trunk lid and the area under the license plate from one lamp to another, a light strip of running lights stretches. The new model remains with the same wheelbase - 2800 mm. The rest of the dimensions have changed. The length of the car has increased by 30 mm - up to 4705 mm. It became wider by the same 30 mm and reached a width of 1840 mm. But in height, he added only 5 mm, reaching the mark of 1435 mm. We can say that in terms of height IS literally has grown to one of its direct competitors - "three rubles" BMW. The height of the "Bavarian" is the same. And, if the width of the compact Lexus exceeds the BMW 3-Series by 13 mm, then it is 4 mm shorter in length. Partly small changes in dimensions in the 4th generation Lexus IS, compared to the previous model, are due to the use of the old "N" platform. If the appearance of the younger Lexus has changed thoroughly, then the motor line has been left unchanged. There are three power plants, and all of them were in the previous model. The basic turbocharged 2.0-liter engine paired with an 8-speed "automatic" is installed on the rear-wheel drive "Aies" with the model name IS300. The power of this in-line four is 244 horsepower. The average V-shaped 6-cylinder 3.5-liter engine in the engine range is available only on all-wheel drive versions of the IS300 sedan and already with a 6-speed automatic transmission. Its power in this case is 264 horsepower. The same engine, but boosted to 315 hp, is also offered in the IS350: rear-wheel drive with an 8-range automatic transmission and all-wheel drive with a six-speed automatic transmission. In the new model, adaptive cruise control is available, as well as systems: high-beam control, monitoring of "blind spots", recognition of road signs, collision avoidance with automatic braking, and driver fatigue control. 18-inch wheels instead of the previous "seventeenth" ones became standard. Optionally, 19-inch models can be installed, and on models in the F Sport version they are standard. The 8-inch touchscreen of the new multimedia system was not only raised above the center console, but also moved a few centimeters towards the driver's seat. On IS versions with navigation and Mark Levinson music system, the diagonal of the multimedia display has been increased to 10.3 inches. Lexus has announced that it plans to sell the IS in about 40 countries. In Russia, the compact Lexus has long been removed from the model line. The reason is simple - as in the European market, the model could not compete with the proportionate sedans of the "German troika". It remains for the Japanese automaker to reorient it to the markets of the US, Australia and Asia.
