Mercedes-Benz CL-Klasse appeared as an independent model in 1999. Initially, the car was delivered in two versions: CL500 and CL600. 1999 was marked by an important event for Mercedes with the purchase of the AMG tuning studio, as a result of which the company introduced the CL AMG modification in early 2000. In 2002, the car was overhauled, and then AMG supplemented the line of power units with an auto V8 engine. By the end of production of the first generation, that is, by 2006, the manufacturer had produced 46 thousand cars. The modern Mercedes-Benz CL-Klasse debuted in September 2006. The developers borrowed some elements of the exterior of the model from historical cars. So, the radiator grill has similar features to the C126. For the first time, an active suspension, Active Body Control, was used in a car. Another innovation is the intelligent bi-xenon optics for low and high beams. In the summer of 2010, a new version of the CL-class was presented on the French Riviera. A little later, the manufacturer demonstrated modifications to the CL 65 and CL 63 with the AMG index. The updated Mercedes-Benz CL-Klasse features minor design changes and a new 435-horsepower bi-turbo V8 engine.
