The long-lived Toyota Celica debuted in 1970 as a revolutionary model for young drivers. The car was produced in a single version - a two-door ST sports coupe with a 75-horsepower 1.6-liter carburetor engine. In 1974, the manufacturer released the GT model, which increased its engine power to 123 horsepower. Two years later, a modification of the Celica in the body of a liftback came off the assembly line, reaching speeds of up to 210 km / h. The second generation of cars appeared in 1978. The generation was produced in two versions - Series A and Series B. Each series offered a large number of modifications. The company released the third generation in 1982. Significant changes have been made to the body design of the Celica. In addition, a 2.4-liter petrol engine has been added. The fourth generation of the car came out in 1986 in three versions at once: ST, GT and GT-S in liftback and coupe bodies. A distinctive feature of the cars was the front-wheel drive, which was installed in the fifth (1989) and sixth (1993) and further generations models. In January 1999, at the Detroit Auto Show, the XYR concept premiered, on the basis of which the seventh generation Toyota Celica was built, which debuted in Frankfurt. Machine production was phased out in 2005; in Japan it was sold until April 2006.
