The first electric mass-produced sports car from the British manufacturer debuted on the catwalks of the Shanghai International Auto Show in 2019. Development of the Aston Martin Rapide E began a few years earlier, and its first conceptual modification could be seen back in 2015. Externally, the novelty is not much different from its petrol source. You can distinguish the electric version from the usual one by a more elaborate aerodynamic body kit. It has an enlarged splitter lip on the front bumper and a more efficient diffuser at the rear. What's more, the electric motor generates much less heat and does not require large air currents for cooling, which is why the body has lost several air intakes and has become more streamlined. As a result, the drag coefficient was reduced by 8%. In the wheel arches, you can see light and durable forged wheels with a unique pattern, and in the cabin, in place of the familiar dashboard, there is a 9-inch screen. The Aston Martin Rapid E is an all-electric sports car. Its flat-roofed body can be classified as a four-seat liftback. The exact dimensions of this version have not been specified, but the characteristics of the version with an internal combustion engine are known for certain. It is 5020 mm long, 1929 mm wide, 1360 mm high and 2989 mm between the axles. It is noteworthy that the manufacturer decided not to make fundamental changes to the construct of the source platform. The rechargeable batteries are located not under the bottom, but in place of the missing units. Instead of a huge twelve-cylinder petrol V-engine, variable gearbox and gas tank, special containers made of Kevlar and carbon fiber can be seen. The development of the technical component was carried out in cooperation with Williams Advanced Engineering. The Aston Martin Rapide E is powered by two synchronous electric motors. Their total output is 612 horsepower and 950 Nm of torque. Power is supplied from a lithium-ion battery with a total capacity of 65 kWh. It should be noted that the on-board network operates at a high voltage of 800 volts. As a result, thanks to such a herd, a sports car weighing 2,140 kg takes off from its place to the first hundred in just 4.1 seconds. The maximum speed is electronically limited to 250 kilometers per hour. On fully charged batteries, the car can cover up to 320 kilometers on a combined cycle. It will take 40 to 60 minutes to fully restore the charge. In addition to other options available for the regular version with an internal combustion engine, the Aston Martin Rapide E is equipped with several unique positions. So, by default, the car will receive an upgraded chassis from the Rapide AMR version with modified suspension settings. Moreover, the model will receive a limited slip differential, which allows full transmission of all torque and cornering in a controlled drift. Also in the cabin there will be a switch responsible for selecting the operating mode of the control electronics. There will be GT, Sport and Sport + modes to choose from.
