Initially, the Lanos car was produced under the Daewoo brand. The company launched this car into mass production in 1997, spending 420 million dollars on the development of the car. Before this, the car was shown at the Geneva Motor Show. The manufacturer positioned Lanos as a replacement for the Daewoo Nexia model. The body of the car was created in the Italian studio ItalDesign under the guidance of designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. The first generation Lanos was produced in three body styles: sedan, three-door hatchback and five-door hatchback. The cars were equipped with engines of 1.3-1.6 liters with a capacity of 75-106 horsepower. In 2002, General Motors Daewoo Auto & Technology was created, and the Lanos car underwent restyling and began to be sold under the Chevrolet brand. The new car has undergone some changes in the exterior. In 2003, full-scale production of Chevrolet Lanos was launched in Ukraine. At the "Ukvravto" plant, stamping, welding, painting and assembly of bodies were carried out. In December 2004, ZAZ started assembling the latest generation Chevrolet Lanos. In 2009, the model began to be supplied to the Russian market under the name ZAZ Chance.
