Subaru is the automotive division of Fuji Heavy Industries Ltd. The main production facilities of the company are located near Tokyo. Subaru's uneasy history began in 1958 when it launched mass production of the Subaru 360, which was designed for a government order. The car was supposed to become a truly popular Japanese car. But real recognition did not come. 1966 saw the debut of the new Subaru 1000. It was the first front-wheel drive car to be fitted with a horizontally opposed engine. Further, the company's specialists begin work on the creation of an all-wheel drive vehicle. And so, in 1989, the whole world saw the Subaru Leone 4WD Station Wagon model. At the end of the 80s of the XX century, Subaru created the economical Legacy car. With the release of this model, the permanent symmetrical all-wheel drive system and the boxer motor finally become the hallmark of Subaru.
