In the summer of 2018, the Russian-Japanese manufacturer Datsun presented a rather interesting version of the mi-DO model, intended for fishing enthusiasts. In the near future, the modification will not go into the series, and the owners of cars of this brand took part in its creation, through an Internet survey. She received a slightly modified technical filling, a lot of interesting and slightly controversial options, as well as a rather unusual design. First of all, the coloring is striking, extremely atypical for this class. The car body was covered with a special compound that protects the body panels from mechanical damage when driving on dirt roads. To further preserve the fenders, stylish arch extensions have been installed. They are made of unpainted black plastic and are designed to stop some of the stones flying out from under the wheels in case of movement on rubble or gravel. It should be noted the 15-inch six-spoke forged wheels. They are also coated with a protective compound and can withstand quite serious loads compared to their cast counterparts. The last and rather important attribute is a special roof box, also painted in camouflage colors. Datsun mi-DO is a budget class five-door subcompact hatchback. The special version, excluding the box and its mountings, almost completely repeats the dimensions of the factory car. The only and key difference is the ride height. For more confident off-road driving, the manufacturer increased the ground clearance by 6 millimeters, as a result of which, under the bottom of the car, it turned out to be about 180 mm. This increase was achieved by installing special spacers on the shock absorber cups in the front and brackets on the rear beam. The key feature of this modification is a special box organizer installed directly in the cabin. He took the lion's share of the trunk and the entire rear row, with the result that the hatchback became a two-seater. This chest of drawers is designed to accommodate all the tackle you need for fishing, and also comes with a few simple tools. Under the hood of the special version of the Datsun mi-DO is an absolutely standard in-line atmospheric gasoline engine with 1596 cubic centimeters. Due to the eight-valve block head, it develops just 87 horsepower at 5100 rpm and 140 Nm of torque at 3800 rpm. The only major change is the gearbox revision. The usual five-speed cable-driven mechanics were equipped with a main pair with a different gear ratio. For standard cars, this number is 3.7, the cross version received 3.9, and the fishing MI-DO is as much as 4.13. This refinement will be appreciated by those who like driving in difficult road conditions. The car has become much more powerful and responsive. Moreover, acceleration to 100 kilometers per hour should also take less time (the standard version spends 12 seconds on it). On the other hand, the maximum speed, and with it the cruising speed, significantly decreased. Fuel consumption has increased slightly, in large part due to the high drag of the roof box. The special version of Datsun is unambiguously quite interesting, but a bit underdeveloped solution. Its unusual and, at the same time, functional design may be to the taste of many. Such a car will not merge into a gray everyday stream, and, in the best possible way, will emphasize the character and individuality of its owner. The salon is a rather controversial part of this model. Of course, a large tackle organizer is quite a useful thing, however, most potential customers would most likely prefer to have a full-fledged second row on board, where they can put their companions or, if necessary, put all the necessary things. The technical stuffing can please with extended functionality and unification with serial models. Despite the increased ground clearance, the shock absorbers and springs remained serial. In general, the ideas behind the fishing Datsun mi-DO are quite entertaining, however, they do not quite fit this particular model. The soplatform Kalina Cross, in a more practical station wagon, looks much more attractive from the point of view of such activities.
