The letter "L" in the name of this car means "large", which is translated from English as "large". The 500L is 594mm longer than the base Fiat 500, and slightly taller and wider. Unlike the short-wheelbase Fiat 500, the 500L was not sold in Russia, which cannot be said about Europe, where extended versions are in steady demand not only among ordinary buyers, but also among rental offices. So in Italy, these little cars make up almost a third of the fleet of rented cars. Deciding not to introduce this model to the Russian market, Fiat acted wisely. The appearance of the machine, to put it mildly, is peculiar, and it is unlikely to contribute to sales. And if we remember that prices for a small “five hundred” in our country start at 900 thousand rubles, then the cost of the “large” version will tend to 1 million, which will not be a plus for it either. But 500L also has advantages. It is practical, comfortable and relatively inexpensive to maintain. To this should be added a wide range of engines, among which there are diesels, which allows us to offer customers a wide variety of modifications. And this little car costs much less in Europe than in Russia. The increase in the base had a positive effect not only on the volume of the cabin, in which five people can now freely accommodate, but also on the capacity of the trunk - about 560 liters. If this is not enough, the rear seat backrest can be folded down. One movement and the luggage compartment increases to 638 liters. The backrest of the front passenger seat can also be folded, which allows using almost the entire length of the passenger compartment of 2.6 m. There are enough of them with a margin for transporting skis, snowboards and even kayaks when folded. The line of motors consists of two gasoline units and two diesel ones. The first ones are the two-cylinder 0.9-liter of the Turbo TwinAir series and the four-cylinder 100-horsepower with the volume of 1.4 liters. The second - diesel with a capacity of 85 and 105 hp. volume of 1.3 and 1.6 liters. As a transmission, a six-speed manual transmission or a five-band "robot" is offered. The drive for this modification of the model is possible only on the front wheels. The all-wheel drive 500L is also available, but this is already the Treking version. Rigid suspension. It has been specially tuned to improve handling and reduce roll when cornering. However, despite all the efforts, the long wheelbase still does not allow for the same confident cornering and lane changes at high speed, as in the base modification. The steering has also been improved, which in the 500 was previously criticized for being too light and inaccurate.
