The history of the Fiat Croma begins in 1986. Then the Italian carmaker released a model designed on the same platform with the Alfa Romeo 164, Saab 9000 and Lancia Thema. The design of the car was developed by Giorgetto Giugiaro. Croma production ceased in 1996. For 10 years, the manufacturer has produced 450 thousand cars of the first generation. However, the car never gained wide popularity, although it was a fairly competitive model. After another 10 years, in 2005, at the Geneva Motor Show, the concern demonstrated the second generation Fiat Croma. This model was also developed by the car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro. The new Fiat Croma is based on the extended GM Epsilon platform and shares many similarities with the likes of the Saab 9-3 and Opel Vectra. The car went on sale in the Italian domestic market in June 2005. In 2007, the car underwent minimal design changes. Also in February 2007, Fiat's UK division announced that it would stop supplying Fiat Croma to that country. However, a right-hand drive car can still be purchased by special order. According to the results of crash tests, the car received 5 stars in the EuroNCAP system.
