The new generation Honda Insight was shown as a concept at the Detroit International Winter Auto Show in January 2018, and the production version debuted just a few months later at the New York Show. At its core, the model is a full third generation and, in the hierarchical line of the manufacturer, has taken a place between the Civic and the Accord. The novelty received a different body type, a hybrid power plant, a redesigned design and a completely redesigned appearance. First of all, I would like to note the elongated narrow headlights, dissected by a chrome trim. They have full LED fillings and stylish L-shaped sections of daytime running lights. The radiator grille flaunts the manufacturer's logo and is covered with several horizontally oriented ribs. On the front bumper there is a small air intake and recesses with blocks of fog lights. As for the stern, it turned out to be quite interesting. The small fin of the radio antenna, the upturned trunk lid and large brake lights are striking. Honda Insight is a four-door Golf class sedan. It is worth noting that thanks to the shallow cut of the roof and the short trunk lid, the model is more likely to be perceived as a four-door coupe. Its overall dimensions are: length 4663 mm, width 1819 mm, height 1412 mm, and wheelbase 2700 mm. The car is built on a proprietary modular platform and has a completely independent suspension architecture. McPherson struts are located on the front axle, and a multi-link design at the rear. The chassis is equipped with telescopic shock absorbers, coil springs and anti-roll bars. The trunk of the sedan, in the standard position, can provide up to 428 liters of storage space. For transportation of bulky or long loads, the backrests of the back sofa can be folded in a 60:40 ratio. Under the hood of the Honda Insight is the I-MMD hybrid power plant. It is based on an atmospheric in-line four of 1.5 liters. It operates on the Atkinson cycle, and also has multipoint fuel injection and a sixteen-valve head. The engineers managed to squeeze 103 horsepower at 5500 rpm and 134 Nm of torque at 5000 rpm. Two electric motors work together with the internal combustion engine. The total output of such an installation is 151 horsepower and 267 Nm of torque. It is worth noting that most of the time, the car is driven only by an electric motor, and the internal combustion engine is connected exclusively at high speeds. As a result, fuel consumption will be 4.3 liters of gasoline per hundred kilometers at the city pace, 4.8 liters on the highway and 4.5 liters in the combined cycle. In the basic configuration, the Honda Insight has a fairly extensive list of options and a host of safety systems. So, the sedan is equipped with front and side airbags, ABS, braking assistance system, a rear view camera, a tracking system, full LED headlights, 16-inch alloy wheels, as well as an advanced multimedia system with an eight-inch touch screen.
