The Hyundai Terracan is the Korean automaker's first own SUV. The car, based on a sturdy frame structure, debuted at the 2001 Geneva Motor Show. Before the premiere of the production version of the car, a concept car named Hyundai Highlander was shown. In some countries, the car is offered in two versions: the Terracan and the more advanced Terracan Highlander. The latest version is equipped with an all-wheel drive system, while the base model is equipped with rear-wheel drive with a rigidly connected front axle. Switching to four-wheel drive can be carried out at speeds up to 80 km / h. Initially, the SUV was equipped with one of three engines, two of which were diesel and one was gasoline. But later the 2.5-liter diesel was removed from the lineup. Instead, Hyundai Terracan received a 2.9-liter turbodiesel unit that develops a power of 150 horsepower. The gasoline engine has a capacity of 200 horsepower. In 2004 the cars were modernized. Many changes have been made to the exterior of the car. The 2.9 CRDI diesel unit has been boosted to 163 horsepower, while the petrol engine remains the same.
