According to official figures, the Chinese company JAC was formed in 1964. Initially, it specialized in the production of commercial vehicles, producing trucks and buses. However, after a while, it was decided to enter the passenger car market. The first sedan was assembled on March 18, 2002. Currently, the brand's factories produce the entire range of vehicles, as well as engines and components. In total, the annual production volume is 700 thousand cars and 500 thousand engines. The company also includes 15 joint ventures abroad, more than 300 service centers and three research institutes. The first of them is located in Hefei, China, the second was opened in Turin (Italy 2005), and the third in 2006 began work in Tokyo (Japan). Until recently, the distribution of JAC cars to Russia was carried out by the Togliatti branch of the Ukrainian plant Bogdan, which after the bankruptcy of the enterprise was renamed Auto Real. The cars sold were assembled at the Derways plant in Cherkessk, where the production of the S5 crossover was organized. Its sales started in 2013. In 2014, dealers were able to sell only 424 cars, and in 2015 and even less - 152 units. Chinese developers claimed that the JAC S5's appearance was developed in collaboration with Italian design studio Pinifarina, however, this is hard to believe, since the crossover looks a lot like the Hyundai ix35. It is unlikely that such a respected and well-known company all over the world has sunk to plagiarism. If you look under the hood of the JAC S5, you will find either a naturally aspirated 2.0-liter four-cylinder 136-horsepower petrol engine, or a turbocharged version of it with a capacity of 150 hp, allegedly developed in cooperation with BMW. In fact, its power is 176 hp, but for Russia this figure was underestimated at a lower rate of transport tax. The base JAC S5 engine is paired with a five-speed manual gearbox, the second - only with a six-speed gearbox. If you believe the technical characteristics, in the combined cycle, the JAC S5 consumes 7.1 l / 100 km, however, according to the journalists who tested it, you can safely add 1.5-2 liters to this indicator. In Russia, only front-wheel drive versions were assembled.
