Sales of the first generation of the flagship Kia Quoris sedan outside South Korea started in the fourth quarter of 2012, and in Russia it appeared only at the beginning of 2015. The name of this car is derived from the words core (core) and quality (quality), which denote the main advantages of the model, in any case, that's what the company says. The platform for the new executive sedan of the oldest Korean brand was borrowed from another executive car - Hyundai Equus. This is not surprising, since the Kia brand has been owned by the Hyundai concern since 1998. The result is the most affordable rear-wheel drive sedan in its class on the Russian market. True, it is seven centimeters shorter than the Equus. Most likely, this was done not for the sake of "subordination", but to reduce competition. If Quoris had been a little bigger, it would have got into the executive class "F", dominated by Mercedes-Benz S-Class, Lexus LS, BMW 7. It is extremely difficult for a Korean to compete with them, so the developers transferred him to a "weaker" business community " E ". It will be easier for the novelty to survive and break through to the top. In addition, the entry of two Korean brands into the representative class at once would weaken the positions of each of them and create additional competition between them. The underlying Equus / Quoris platform has the BH L (VI) index. It has a multi-link rear suspension and two transverse link arms at the front, so sometimes Koreans say it is also multi-link. Shock absorbers brand ZF Sachs with electronic damping adjustment. In the top version, an air suspension is installed, which is capable of operating in several modes and changing its characteristics depending on road conditions. At speeds over 120 km / h, the car "squats", reducing its standard ground clearance of 145 mm to 130 mm, and on a bad road, on the contrary, rises, increasing the clearance to 175 mm. The exterior of the car was designed by Peter Schraer, who was then still the chief designer of Kia. He once admitted that he was delighted with the design of BMW. This is most likely why the Quoris silhouette is so similar to the Bavarian "seven". The streamlined shape did the job by lowering the drag coefficient (Cx) to 0.27. The radiator grille is Schraer's signature element called the Tiger's Smile. It was she who made Kia models recognizable all over the world. The headlights turned out to be very original. They have 16 LEDs, divided into separate blocks of two in each headlight. The internal blocks are responsible for the high beam, the outer ones for the low beam, as in a conventional headlamp. The latter automatically change their position depending on the steering wheel turn and speed. The salon is trimmed with expensive leather, soft-touch plastic and aluminum and natural wood inserts. For Russia, cars are equipped with its adapted version, equipped not with direct injection into the cylinders, as in the Korean version, but with a separate MPI. In this version, the engine is less sensitive to the quality of gasoline. With it, the car accelerates to "hundreds" in 6.8 seconds. The transmission is also borrowed from the "big brother" - an automatic eight-speed gearbox, which the Koreans developed themselves, rather than ordering a third-party company, such as ZF, as many other car manufacturers of this class do. In 2014, the sedan has undergone an update. Its new version was presented at the 2014 Moscow Motor Show, and went on sale in 2015. At the same time, the cars of the previous generation have not disappeared. Dealers continue to sell them, at least in the domestic market. Perhaps this will last as long as they still have stocks of previously delivered machines. For the top trim levels of the new Quoris, a 5.0-liter unit with 424 hp is in store, with the same eight-speed transmission. The drive is exclusively classic, rear. It should be noted that this is Kia's first rear-wheel drive vehicle. As for the exterior, the 2015 version received a new mesh grille, 19-inch alloy wheels with an updated pattern, and slightly changed the shape of the taillights, bumper and exhaust pipes.
