The Lotus Exige is a two-door, two-door sports car produced by the British manufacturer Lotus Cars. The car is based on the platform of the mid-engined Lotus Elise roadster, produced since 1996. The Exige model was launched into mass production in 2000. The first versions of the car were equipped with a 1.8-liter Rover K-series VHPD engine. The power of this power unit was 179 horsepower. A version of the "Trac Spec" was also produced. This engine produced 195 horsepower. In 2004, the second generation Lotus Exige was released, equipped with a 1.8-liter 16-valve DOHC Toyota / Yamaha engine with a capacity of 193 horsepower. In February 2005, the company announced the release of a limited series of cars equipped with a turbocharged power unit from Toyota. The engine power was increased to 246 horsepower. A total of 50 such machines were produced; they were all yellow or black and were designated 240R. The North American version of the Lotus Exige was unveiled at the Los Angeles Auto Show in January 2006. A month later, the manufacturer announced a charged version of the car - the Lotus Exige S model, equipped with a 223-horsepower Toyota engine.
