The first generation Mazda 3 appeared in 2003 and became one of the most popular models of the Japanese manufacturer. In November 2018, a completely new, fourth generation, debuted on the catwalks of the international auto show in Los Angeles. It received a new platform with a different suspension architecture, an innovative line of powertrains, a classic set of gearboxes, a stylish interior with a high level of equipment, and a redesigned exterior. As before, the design is made in the corporate style of Kodo, however, its more adult variation under the motto “Less is more” is used here, which can be interpreted as “less is more”. Indeed, the car received a calmer silhouette with smoother edges. The headlights have become noticeably narrower and visually adjoin the enlarged radiator grille. It got a rounder shape and a mesh design with many small cells. New brake lights with round sections can be seen aft, and two exhaust pipes on the rear bumper. Mazda 3 is a Golf class model, available in two versions: a five-door hatchback and a sedan. The three-volume body will arrive in Russia only by the fall, and the hatchback has already gone on sale. Its overall dimensions are: length 4460 mm, width 1795 mm, height 1435 mm, and the wheelbase is 2725 mm. The ground clearance is rather modest. Only 135 millimeters remain between the bottom point of the underbody and the asphalt. As for the platform itself, there has been a global change with the model. It is based on the modernized Skyactiv-Vehiche base with a front transverse power unit. On the front axle there are independent McPherson struts with rigid levers, a subframe and an anti-roll bar. At the back, in turn, instead of a completely independent multi-link structure, there will be a simpler semi-independent torsion beam. The manufacturer assures that such a solution allowed not only to reduce the cost of production, but also to increase the smoothness of the ride, especially on small irregularities. As for the size of the trunk, the sedan will be able to offer 450 liters of free space, and the hatchback up to 358 liters when loaded under the top shelf. For implementation in the domestic market, Mazda 3 will receive a slightly different set of power units. If abroad you can order a car with an all-wheel drive system or a turbodiesel engine, then our choice is somewhat more modest. Basic versions will be equipped with an in-line atmospheric gasoline power unit with a volume of only 1.5 liters. The high compression ratio, direct fuel delivery and variable valve timing allowed the engineers to squeeze out 120 horsepower at 6,000 rpm and 153 Nm of torque at 4,000 rpm. Alternatively, you can choose a two-liter engine with a similar layout. Its output is 150 horses at 6000 rpm and 213 Nm of thrust at 4000 rpm. By default, the junior engine is mated with a six-speed mechanics, and for an additional fee, it is also equipped with a six-speed hydromechanical automatic. The two-liter engine is offered only with automatic transmission. The drive in all cases is exclusively front-wheel drive. Mazda 3 will be delivered to the Russian market only in foreign assembly in three trim levels: Drive, Active and Supreme. By default, the car will receive seven airbags, a stabilization system, air conditioning, 16-inch stamped wheels, light and rain sensors, as well as LED headlight stuffing and a head-up display. For an additional fee, you can order the electric drive of the front seats, the climate system, heated steering wheel, as well as radar cruise control and an automatic braking system.
