The first generation Nissan Primera was introduced in February 1990. Less than a year later, the manufacturer released an all-wheel drive modification. The first generation car was produced in sedan, station wagon and hatchback bodies. In 1993, the range of car engines was updated. In the middle of 1996, the new Nissan Primera series, intended for European motorists, rolled off the assembly line. About 600 innovations were applied in the design of the car. In the spring of 1997, a GT modification was born, equipped with a 150-horsepower engine. The new generation Nissan Primera entered production in the fall of 1999 at the Sunderland, UK facility. The design of the car was developed by the English designer Dale Gotsel. The model was offered in four trim levels: Comfort, Sport, Lux and Elegance. In December 2001, the Sunderland plant began production of the new generation Nissan Primera in station wagon and sedan bodies. In the summer of 2002, the range of bodies was replenished with a five-door hatchback created for the European market. The car became the most revolutionary innovation in the entire history of the automaker. The model was equipped with the already well-known 1.6-liter QG16 engine, which develops power up to 109 horsepower. In addition to it, the car was equipped with a 116-horsepower QG engine, a 140-horsepower QR20 unit and a 126-horsepower YD22 turbodiesel.
