The first generation Porsche Boxster debuted back in 1996 and immediately became a kind of "door" to the world of new Porsche cars. This is how the German company positioned it in the market. The name Boxster is formed from the merger of two words - boxer (the English word for a boxer engine - these are installed on all sports models of Porsche) and roadster (body type). For 17 years, the Boxster has been produced in a single body version - a soft-top roadster. True, almost 10 years later - in 2005 - the Cayman coupe made its debut, which from a technical point of view is almost identical to the Boxster model. And for the Boxster, a removable rigid roof was offered only as an option. When creating the car, the engineers were inspired by the successful racing model of the 50s of the last century 550 Spyder, which was also with an open top for the sake of lighter construction (in those years, the gain in stiffness from the coupe was offset by its significantly greater mass). "Boxers" of the 986 generation were equipped with a 6-cylinder boxer engine with a volume of only 2.5 liters and a power of 204 hp. In 2000, a new version with a 228 hp engine appeared. In the same year, a faster version of the Boxster S was introduced, equipped with a 3.2-liter boxer with 253 hp. In 2003, another update took place. Many details have undergone changes: the body was expanded, the wheel arches and air intakes were increased, the shape of the headlights and bumpers was slightly changed. In addition, the new car turned out to be one of the safest in its class. Production models are now equipped with side airbags to protect the head. In 2007, the Boxster and Boxster S models received an updated Tiptronic transmission. In 2009, the Porsche Boxster underwent another restyling, adding several new engines and a gearbox with two clutches. At the end of 2012, the third generation of the Porsche Roadster debuted. The exterior of the car has become more aggressive, closer to the older 911 models, while the rigidity of the body has also significantly increased. The third generation is equipped with updated six-cylinder opposites with a volume of 2.7 (265 hp) and 3.2 (315 hp) liters.
