The Volkswagen concern announced its decision to start selling the Volkswagen Phaeton executive sedan in Russia at the beginning of 2010. The first cars appeared at official dealers in December. At the request of the manufacturer, Volkswagen Phaeton was exhibited not in ordinary showrooms, along with other cars, but in special “Phaeton-centers”. At the time of the launch of sales, 19 of them were created in 11 Russian cities. Only Volkswagen dealers possessing such centers have received the right to sell Phaetons. The latest generation Volkswagen Phaeton has received an updated front end, which is adorned with a new chrome grille and adaptive bi-xenon headlights. The profile of the side moldings and the shape of the LED direction indicators installed in the rear-view mirror housings have been changed. The list of proposed Volkswagen Phaeton power units consists only of gasoline V-shaped engines, the number of cylinders of which can be six, eight or twelve. The base for the Volkswagen Phaeton is a 280-horsepower V6 FSI with a torque of 370 Nm. A six-speed automatic transmission is offered as a transmission. In the case of all-wheel drive, the Volkswagen Phaeton is capable of accelerating to 250 km / h, reaching the first "hundred" in 8.9 seconds and consuming 11.4 liters of fuel per 100 km in the combined cycle. In the case of the V8, which has 335 hp. and a torque of 430 Nm, the speed ceiling of the Volkswagen Phaeton is electronically limited at the same level. Acceleration to 100 km / h takes 6.9 seconds, and gasoline consumption in the combined cycle is in the region of 12.5 l / 100 km. The most powerful V12 can be found only on the extended (+120 mm) versions of the Volkswagen Phaeton, which reach a speed of 100 km / h in 6.1 seconds, and the maximum speed is still limited by the same indicator of 250 km / h. Consumption - 14.5 l / 100 km. As standard, the Volkswagen Phaeton is equipped with the RCD 810 system with its own 30 gigabyte hard drive, capable of using Google Internet services. It is operated from an eight-inch touchscreen display with a simple and intuitive interface. It can also be used to set the operating modes of the air conditioner and the music system. The Volkswagen Phaeton saloon is offered in both five-seat and four-seat versions. In the latter case, instead of a one-piece rear seat, two separate chairs are mounted with many electrical adjustments. As an option, the Volkswagen Phaeton can be ordered with a high-beam assistant (Dynamic Light Assist), which allows it to remain on during the trip. A camera mounted on the windshield of the car monitors approaching and following vehicles in the same direction and sends signals to the control unit, which blocks the light flux in places where it can blind other road users. All Volkswagen Phaetons are assembled at the Glass Factory in Dresden (Germany). It got this name because of the completely transparent walls. Thanks to them, customers can watch from the outside how their cars are assembled.
