Sociedad Espanola de Automoviles de Turismo SA, abbreviated as SEAT, is a major Spanish motor vehicle company. It was created in the 50th year of the XX century. The main plant is located in the city of Barcelona. Three years after the foundation, the first car of its own design came out. A year later, the production capacity was already 3000 cars. In 1986, Volkswagen acquires more than 50% of the shares of SEAT. At the end of the year, Volkswagen's shareholding rose to 75%. The management decides to expand production. In 1989, construction began on a plant in Martola, which was opened by the King of Spain, Juan Carlos. In the early 90s of the XX century, Volkswagen completely absorbs the company. Today SEAT produces a wide range of city cars with VW engines.
